I trained as a registered nurse at Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, qualifying as a State Registered Nurse in 1976 and State Certified Midwife in 1978. I moved to Bristol in 1979 and over the following years gained wide experience, particularly in Men’s and Women’s Health. I fell into Urology through a chance meeting with Prof Persad and joined the team at the BUA in October 2006.
My role is to give nursing support for the Consultant’s clinics and to provide specialist nurse clinics for investigations and ongoing treatments. I carry out a full range urological investigations, including flow testing, PSA and Testosterone blood testing, here in the BUA Treatment Room, with results immediately available for the consultation. I give bladder installations for a number of conditions and teach techniques to enable ongoing self-care.
